In the conference room at the National Stadium rector of EPFL, Professor Aebischer gave a spirited lecture on the strategic directions of development of technical universities. A one hour lecture ended with much longer discussion on many current issues affecting higher education, such as distance learning, digitalization, public-private partnership, or rankings.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Science and Higher Education Jaroslaw Gowin spent a day in Technopark and Lodz University of Technology. He was informed about our preparations for International Research Agenda and a grant from the largest program of Horizon2020 – Teaming for Excellence. Then the gala at which talented students of Politechnika received scholarships ended with a lecture delivered by the Minister.
Saturday proved busy for pupils participating in the final forty-second Olympiad of Technical Knowledge, which for the second time takes place at our University. Among the guests were representatives of local authorities; among others, Ms. Jolanta Zięba-Gzik, a member of the Board of Lodz Region.
Today, the day ended with a nice touch; gallery Imaginarium in the Lodz House of Culture held an art exhibition of work by our students and graduates of the Design speciality. The exhibition is entitled Forma. Struktura. Komunikat. It was nice to hear that work of our students has been mentioned in an American publication (what is documented in picture).
Two famous Polish swimmers, Otylia Jedrzejczak and Aleksandra Urbanczyk-Olejarczyk, and the Director of the Department of Sports of the City of Lodz, visited today the our University. Rain ceased permitting a visit to the construction site where outlines of swimming pools, including the first in the region Olympic-sized one are already clearly visible.
Yesterday, TUL hosted Vice-President of the Central Council of Science and Higher Education, Professor Zbigniew Marciniak. His lecture on the measures proposed to cut down the bureaucracy in education sparked vivid discussion and hope that something in this area will be done. The proposed changes sound optimistic.
